Job opportunities in the period of economic integration

According to Vietnam Lawyer Magazine, currently in developed countries, the ratio of lawyers to the total population is very high. For example, in the US, there is one lawyer for every 250 people (1/250), 1/1000 in France and Singapore, 1/1526 in Thailand, 1/1543 in Japan, whereas 1/6000 in Vietnam. Therefore, the demand for legal services is very large, leading to a very high demand for human resources, especially in the context of Vietnam’s economy being developed quickly and attracting a large amount of FDI capital. In the first six months of 2022, there were 76,233 newly established businesses with a total capital of 882.2 trillion VND. In the first four months of the year, there were 464 newly established foreign enterprises in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 15.9 trillion VND. The fact shows that businesses are increasingly aware of the importance of legal services to ensure legal compliance – a foundation for sustainable and long-term development.

Economic Law is expected to be a potential area of study in next few years

With the Bachelor Degree of Economic Law, students can become a lawyer or work in many organizations such as courts and procuratorates, State executive agencies, notary offices, banks, businesses, institutes, etc. Therefore, there shall be a high demand for human resources in the law industry. However, there are also many challenges for students studying Economic Law.

Foreign languages and soft skills are barriers of law students to grasp international jobs

Accessing Vietnamworks and Jobstreet websites, there are many job positions for lawyers and corporate legal experts with high income. However, English proficiency is required to be high with good reading and writing skills. In addition, negotiation and litigation skills will be a great advantage in the field of economic law. However, the reality shows that Vietnamese lawyers are not strong at foreign languages (especially legal English), leading to confusion and limitation in handling of disputes involving legal cases involved foreign parties and working with international arbitrators. Understanding labor needs and job requirements, NTT Institute of International Education (NIIE) has offered the Bachelor’s program in Economic Law according to international standards with the goal of providing the highly qualified human resources being fully equipped with Vietnamese and international laws, good at English and soft skills, able to work in multinational enterprises, consulting, drafting contracts, handling lawsuits and disputes involving foreign elements. Specifically, when studying in Economic Law at NIIE, students will be taught bilingually in English and Vietnamese and the training program based on international standards focusing on practice. In addition to professional knowledge, students shall take 6 intensive English classes from basic to advanced level with the learning outcome of B2 level (equivalent to IELTS 5.5 – 6.0), as well as enhance necessary soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, presentation, emotional control, etc. to ensure that after graduation, students are able to get jobs and be professional in legal services.
